Belaz Mining Truck Driving Simulators

The simulator includes an actual driver cabin with functional controls and instructor module to control trainee’s actions, both interfaced into the local network.

BELAZ truck cabin is installed on mobile platform. The simulated environment is displayed in front- and side-view visualization systems.

Instructor module

INSTRUCTOR MODULE

DESKTOP:
• Dynamic platform lock button;
• Keyboard and mouse;
• Headset with microphone.

OBSERVATION SCREENS DISPLAY:
• View from cabin (front view);
• Outer camera view, which moves with the truck and enables its observation from different viewpoints;
• Instructor panel

THE INSTRUCTOR MONITORS TRAINEE’S ACTIONS AND CONDITION OF CONTROL SYSTEMS:
• Exercise results can be printed with printer.
• Voice communications between the instructor and driver are enabled by acoustic system
and microphone installed on driver cabin and headset on instructor workplace.

Instructor panel is intended to control the simulator and includes the set of screen forms to start, control, execute and review the exercises.

DRIVING AREA MAP
The map is located in top left part of the instructor panel and schematically represents the area where the exercises are fulfilled. It contains the following designations:
• Road network;
• Driving track;
• Icons of training obstacles;
• Fixed structures (houses, trees etc.);
• Truck and other road users position
on track.

MAIN MENU
Main menu is located in top right part of the instructor panel and provides access to basic simulator control commands:
• Input of trainees log data;
• Loading and starting the exercises;
• Changing visibility and weather conditions;
• Input of training failures;
• Viewing and printing the results.

INSTRUCTOR PANEL

DASHBOARD

The instrumentation panel is located in the bottom part of the instructor panel
and shows the condition of instrumentation and gauges in the truck cabin.

DRIVER CABIN INTERIOR

Driver cabin interior completely complies with the interior of the actual truck cabin. Regular driving controls, gauges and warning instruments are installed inside the cabin. Relative positions, ergonomics, feel and feedback of the controls completely comply with the ones of actual vehicle. Truck motion simulation is enabled by driver cabin vibrations and corresponding changes in visual environment observed within the fields of view provided by front and side observation systems and rear view mirrors.

MULTI-CHANNEL VISUALIZATION SYSTEM

3D MINING SITES MODELLING

Long experience in 3d modelling jointly with the world market leaders of 3d landscape scanning systems enable integration of «belaz» truck model into actual mining site environment to provide highly efficient training of «belaz» truck operators at specific production sites:

Real time field-of-view modelling with the help of computer visualization
systems;
• Precise mathematical models of truck systems;
• 3D models of mines at specific production sites;
• Specially designed package of exercises and efficient control over the training
process;
Training in adverse driving conditions: rain, snow, ice, poor visibility;
during the daytime and at night with different road illumination levels;
• Realistic display of terrain enabled by use of photo-textures, advanced animation and dynamic illumination systems.

Advantages of using full-scale simulators made by «logos» group of companies:

Training process enables modelling of numerous irregular traffic situations that sometimes cannot be created in real conditions.
• Driver training is implemented with no diversion of the equipment
from mining and interruption of the production process.
• Driver training is implemented with no consumption of vehicle service
life, fuel and lubricants.
• Use of simulators in operators training process is environmentally
friendly.
• Training process does not depend on weather conditions.
• Possibility of actual mining site model integration to provide highly
efficient «BELAZ» truck operator training in the environment
of specific production sites.
• The simulator relieves psychological strain of the trained operator
which enables better mastering of new knowledge.
• Possibility of comprehensive control over the training process.
• Soft- and hardware system analyses the results of exercises and provides objective assessment of trainee’s actions.

Cost efficiency:

Reduction of operational risks and costs related to personnel training.
• Reduction of operational risks and costs related to functions
of the operators trained on the simulator.
• Increase in mining truck operator efficiency and labor safety.
